9. Pleasure & Pain

VERSE 1:
Come down to my secret room... We'll have, a lot of fun
(but) Don't tell your mother what... You've been doing tonight
Some folks think that pleasure & pain
Are all, a part of love
Think about that... as I strap you high above

CHORUS 1:
You'll scream my name, as I draw another line of pain
And feel the shame...
of being degraded, you know that's why you came

VERSE 2:
Twist and Shout and wiggle about, You'll find... that it's no use
Your bonds will hold tight, for tonight you're here for my abuse
Moan, a little softer now, you know it hurts me so
To see how you suffer as I strike one final blow

CHORUS 2:
You'll scream my name, As I draw another line of pain
And feel the shame...
of suffering sweetly in my merciless game

VERSE 3:
Whips & Chains & high-heel boots... Can be, a lot of fun
(but) Don't tell your mother what... You've been doing tonight
Some folks think that pleasure & pain
Are all, part of love
Think about that... as I strap you high above

CHORUS 1:
You'll scream my name, as I draw another line of pain
And feel the shame...
of being degraded, you know that's why you came

VERSE 4:
I love to watch your long black hair, fly about in fear
Knowing with the whistle of the whip that your fate is clear
You're a slave of mine tonight, tomorrow, I'll be yours
Give & Take, Don't hesitate
For tomorrow it's your turn to be served

CHORUS 3:
I'll scream your name, As you draw another line of pain
And feel the shame, of suffering sweetly in your merciless game
The threshold of pain, is the measure which your love will gain

Where this song came from is somewhat a mystery to me. Like many of my best songs, I simply started playing some chords on my guitar, and the song just appeared, as if it had written itself. As far as the subject matter, S&M, it seemed at once both forbidden and enticing. One might think that I am jumping on the SM/Kinky/Fetish bandwagon... But actually, I wrote this song around 1976, 15-20 years before this kind of activity and fashion became trendy or stylish. Which it has - in the last few years, AOL and the online chat rooms are filled with D/s (Dominant-submissive) discussions; there are nightclubs springing up in every major city across the United States where people strut around in the leather, latex & fetish fashion Media - books, televisions shows and especially adverising - titillate and tease with images of bondage, Domination and leather. So that brings back the question, "Whatever the source, the song was written almost 20 years before this imagery became so chic and popular. And 20 years later, it sure was fun to record! Use your imagination as you listen to the whip cracks and screams (yes, some of them mine) that are so musically in time with this slinky rock/tango. Are they real? Or is it the darker corners of your fantasies that make you want to listen deeper. My, this song make us feel naughty!
