5. Pennies & Diamonds

VERSE 1:
You don't know me, and I don't know you
Are you feeling lonely? Are you feeling blue?
Then send me a message, and make it come true
Tell me... you need someone... to love you too
Tell me... you need someone... to love you too

VERSE 2:
Are you lonely? Well, you don't have to hide
Just knock on my door, and step right inside
There's no need to worry; You don't need your pride
Our laughter will drown out... the tears that we've cried
Our laughter... will drown out.. the tears we've cried

CHORUS 1:
Pennies & Diamonds, Fall to the sand
lost... like the lovers... who once held your hand
But dreams were made to last forever,
come and... dream away with me tonight
Dream away with me tonight

VERSE 3:
Dear someone... I don't know your name
I still want to know you, Do you feel the same
There's so many people, we could make this a game
Pretend not to notice, It seems such a shame
Is this what we wanted, and why we came

CHORUS 2:
Pennies & Diamonds, Wash to the sea
Swept, to an ocean filled with loves yet to be
But dreams were made to last forever,
come and... dream away with me tonight
Dream away with me tonight

CHORUS 3:
Pennies & Diamonds, Fall... from the sky
Lost... in a twinkle of a love that's gone by
But dreams were made to last forever,
come and ... dream away with me tonight
Dream away with me tonight
Dream away with tonight... Dream until the morning light

After working in a couple of recording studios in my first stint in LA, I found a job as a publishing assistant that actually paid above minimum wage. Although a men's magazine publisher, the work atmosphere was not what I expected: Instead of scantily clad models traipsing up & down the hallways, the office was full of the most stodgy, square people you could imagine. My only respite was the rooftop lunchroom. They had some tables and chairs on the roof for employees who wanted to take their lunch in the sun. I would go up there to get away and collect my thoughts. I was still new to LA and quite lonely, One day while up there, it occurred to me that I could write a love letter to a future girlfriend, someone I had yet to meet. I would then fold (the letter) into a paper airplane, and fly it off the roof. If the right woman found it, read it and called me, then I would no longer be alone. So I started writing. "You don't know me, and I don't know you . Are you feeling lonely? Are you feeling blue?" I continued writing and when finished, I folded the paper and was about to fly it off the roof... when I stopped, opened it and read it once more. I realized I had the lyrics for a song, I took it home, wrote the music, and that's how 'Pennies & Diamonds' was born.
